Dragon Tattoo Art Explained
It’s a good idea to learn about the unique dragon tattoo before ever getting one. First, it’s fairly common knowledge the dragons represent mythological messages and beings for people from China to Korea, along with many other countries. Though the dragon has different meanings in the East and West, the western world still has a respectable number of people who follow the creature.
Is It An Emperor?
Be aware that in Eastern culture, dragons are symbolic of emperors and dynasties, and other values such as intelligence, freedom from oppression, safety, and inner-strength. While the dragon is a majestic creature in the East, many Western interpretation of the dragon depict it as an evil being. Before getting your tattoo, be certain you have the correct version for yourself.
From a design perspective, the two types of dragon tattoo are very different. In Asian tradition, the dragon is very similar to a snake with long, thin bodies, while the Western interpretation is closer to a dinosaur, with a large and intimidating frame. In addition to the overall body, there are other, subtler divisions within the general East-West distinction, such as the fact that Japanese dragons often have long whiskers.
Much of the appeal of a dragon tattoo comes from the mystical, almost magical appearance of the dragon, along with the wide array of virtues and messages it represents. Don’t assume all dragons are of the intimidating, fire-breathing variety; it’s very common for a special person’s initials or name to be added to the design.
While the arm and shoulder are common locations for men, women often select the lower back for tattoo designs because it enhances their self-image. Due to the large amount of space available on the back, there is potential for large, detailed scenes.
There are many different types of dragon tattoos that you can have tattooed on your body. When finding the type of dragon tattoo design that is best for you is to consider your personality and interests, and find one that fits in with these.
